Waterlogged

I blame the rain for my inability to post ANYTHING for the last five, yes 5(!) days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like I hit monsoon season in the Tropics or something...I promise to actually post something worth while soon...
It has been raining almost non-stop for 5 days. Guess what is in the forecast for the next 5 days, go ahead try to guess. I will give you three guesses. If you guessed rain, then you are right!
What do you win? You win the right to say you are the weather person for the next couple of days.
Ok off to try and gain some sanity...
(HAHAHAHAHA yeah right, me sanity)

So last night started the free concert's at Syracuse's Inner Harbor. Last night they had local bands on and then Cracker came on.
Now I didn't really know who Cracker was, but Quinn opened for them the first time he was in college and in general, really loves the band.
So here are the pictures from last night. Have fun, and i promise a real update later!
Order of the pix: Me, the concert and then Quinn!

Computers and being a librarian

I am a mortuary science librarian, well I guess that is the best way to describe what I do. I am the library director at a mortuary school in the city I live in.
Today I have felt a great deal of pride both the for the profession of mortuary science and for the library world.
Today I read an article in The Director, which is a serial published by the National Funeral Director's Association, NFDA, titled "Grief Relief: A professional librarian outlines how public libraries can help those dealing with the pain of loss, reminding people that 'a book can be a precious balm.'"

Today while blow drying my hair I have decided, after spending a lot of weeks messing around with a students' mac, that I would like to buy a Mac book when I finally have a full time job.
Mac's are not as bad as I thought they were, nor are they nearly as hard to use as I originally thought either. I will continue to use a PC and will most likely upgrade my PC laptop in another couple of years as well. I do also have a desktop PC that I do plan on using until it completely kicks the bucket. But since my desktop actually starts up faster and in general is slightly easier to use in some aspects than my laptop I have a feeling I will have my desktop much longer than my laptop.
I really know I will piss off a lot of people if I get a mac, but at the end of the day I am tired of not knowing what do in all situations.

And for one last final note, I am thinking about a lot of different options for next year for work and life changing decisions. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I decide what to do.

Not for the faint of heart

So this post is not for the faint of heart, but just a few things I would love to get off my chest.
My roommate's dog is a chihuahua, miniature French bulldog mix. He is very tiny. His ideal weight should be 4-5 pounds, so at 6 pounds he is a hefty little boy, but a darn stinking cute one at that!
Anyways, I never knew such a little creature could poop so much! Twice this morning and twice this afternoon on a walk. We have more walking to do but jeez! How can so much stuff come out of one little animal?

And another rant. Today Quinn came over for lunch. I went to put the dog food back into the cupboard and I saw a mouse!!!!!!!!! I freaked! Its not that I don't like the little buggers except when they are hiding and jump out at me.
This applies to ANYTHING that jumps out at me: insect, mammal, human. I don't like things jumping out at me. Its not cool.
Quinn is just sitting there laughing hysterically at my reaction. He thought it was absolutely hilarious. If it happened to anyone else, he is right I would be the one laughing, however not so much this time.

That's all my rants for today. Peace out!

You mean to tell me...what?

LMAO! I thought everyone was allowed to drink at the library! I mean...well take a look at this librarian who sounds shocked at what she sees.

Book Review

So this is not so much a book review as it is an author review. I have been hanging out with a good friend from library school and because we have similair tastes in what we like to read, she has been giving me book after book to read.
Not that reading is a bad thing, I probably just want to spend a little less time reading recreationally and more time reading my textbooks.
The author I am review today is John Connolly. This particular writer is based in the UK however a lot of what I have read thus far has been based in Maine. I do need to preface by saying I love mystery, especially horror but without the violence. Connolly does an awesome job of this. I really do love to be more scared by the prospect of what COULD happen rather than what IS happening.
I just finished The Killing Kind. I do need to admit, this book took me a great deal longer to read than his other books. I am a fairly fast reader, especially when it comes to books I do like and or want to read. However when it comes to bugs, spiders in particular, I am NOT a fan.
In this book the killer is killing with brown recluses and other spiders. I am so NOT a fan of spiders, and I am a big reader before bed. Well this book was not something I could read before bed.
It is bad enough I get nightmares very easily, but this book gave me goosebumps in broad daylight. However, if you are into this kind of mystery I really do recommend it! It is wonderfully written, with a couple plot twists you do not see coming and a couple you can see coming. All in all not a terribly book.

Stolen from another blog

This post is stolen from Liz at This Full House.
Now I saw this quiz and just could not stop laughing, and I really do not believe any of this kind of stuff but it is fun to read what others "think" of.

So, if one of the eight desserts listed below were sitting in front of you, which one would you like to just bury your face into...uh...I mean, which one would you choose?

Angel Food Cake
Brownies
Lemon Meringue
Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Icing
Strawberry Shortcake
Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing
Ice Cream
Carrot Cake

Sorry, you can only pick one. Pick your dessert, and then look to see what psychiatrists think about you...if you dare.
REMEMBER - No Cheating. Make your choice before you check the meaning:

1. ANGEL FOOD CAKE -- Sweet, loving, cuddly. You love all warm and fuzzy items. A little nutty at times. Sometimes you need an ice cream cone at the end of the day. Others perceive you as being childlike and immature at times.

2. BROWNIES -- You are adventurous, love new ideas, and are a champion of underdogs and a slayer of dragons. When tempers flare up you whip out your saber. You are always the oddball with a unique sense of humor and direction. You tend to be very loyal.

3. LEMON MERINGUE -- Smooth, sexy, & articulate with your hands, you are an excellent caregiver and a good teacher. But don't try to walk and chew gum at the same time. A bit of a diva at times, you set your own style because you do your own thing. You shine when it comes to helping others and have many friends.

4. VANILLA CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING -- Fun-loving, sassy, humorous, not very grounded in life; very indecisive and lacking motivation. Everyone enjoys being around you, but you are a practical joker. Others should be cautious in making you mad. However, you are a friend for life.

5. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE -- Romantic, warm, loving. You care about other people, can be counted on in a pinch and expect the same in return. Intuitively keen. You can be very Emotional at times but a true person in every way. You like to do things for yourself and help others learn about themselves.

6. CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING-- Sexy; always ready to give and receive. Very creative, adventurous, ambitious, and passionate. You can appear to have a cold exterior but are warm on the inside. Not afraid to take chances. Will not settle for anything average in life. Love to laugh.

7. ICE CREAM -- You like sports, whether it be baseball, football, basketball, or soccer. If you could, you would like to participate, but you enjoy watching sports. You don't like to give up the remote control. You tend to be self-centered and high maintenance.

8. CARROT CAKE -- You are a very fun loving person, who likes to laugh. You are fun to be with. People like to hang out with you. You are a very warm-hearted person and a little quirky at times. You have many loyal friends. You were meant to lead and teach others. A wonderful role model.
Have a great day guys! I promise to be back later with some book reviews!

LMAO

A flow chart for those people out there that STILL do not understand the who analog to digital signal we have going on.
I have not posted for a while. I promise to post tonight with pictures of my last hiking trip and the balloon festival I did today!
Oh and check back at least once a week for a new book review!!! I WILL read more and more.

On a different note, I am starting back up in school on the 22nd of this month! I get to finish my second Master's degree! I know people really shouldn't be this happy about completing school, however not only do I get to put off paying my student loans for another year but I will also graduate about 4 months faster than I originally thought! WOOT!

Excuse me, this is not what I ordered.

Can someone please page Mother Nature back to my part of the world? I ordered some warmer temperatures but I said nothing, NOTHING, about humidity or bugs! What is up with that?
Aside from the gross humidity today, which the only benefit is a kick butt thunderstorm tonight, I get to go hiking in a place I have never been before! And while this does scare the crap out me, check back tomorrow for some awesome pix!!!

Book Review Time!

This blog today is just for Erin!
I am a librarian so it is only fitting that every so often I do a book review. I have read A LOT of books the past month and will try to read at least 10 more in the next two weeks. Only because then I start school again :( and :). It is happy because I am well on my way to finishing my life goals in school and sad because I have to start homework again.
But the book I am reviewing today is "Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story" by Christopher Moore. I am too lazy to try and pull the cover art off of Amazon so there is a nice little link for you all to go there and read their review and purchase it.
First I am a little biased because I LOVE Christopher Moore. I think he is the cats pajamas.
Anyways, Bloodsucking Fiends is about an average girl living in San Fransisco and no really enjoying life. She is made into a vampire, whom she does not beleive in until she has turned, and for a good 3/4 of the book she really seems to hate what she has turned into. She meets a man who is younger than her and easily manipulated, but they fall in love.
Now this book is not really all that long, and it is written in very large type, however it is truly hilarious so I really do recommend you get it from your local library.
I was stupid, and not very librarian and purchased the book from Colagate University. Mostly because I feel bad, I am giving away a good chunk of my books before I move.
Read this book. It is hilarious.

A blog worthy moment

The event that I am about to describe should not be attempted by anyone else. Also it made me and my BFF Andrew laugh so hard, we almost peed our pants. And really it is SO something I would do.
A week ago Saturday I had to work at the local retail store. It was a closing shift, like all of my shifts. Well I had been at work since 9am that day, for my students and then for the local town people to check them out.
Well I leave the building at 10:30 pm with my other coworkers and walk over to the door of my car. Now I am looking at my door and thought it looked odd, but still stuck my key in the lock.
My key wouldn't turn and I started freaking out a little. I thought the door looked funny to begin with, and I kept thinking the cops stuck something to my car door because I have unpaid parking tickets, as in five! And then I look to my back window for a split second and realize that my AAA sticker is gone. Well it would hardly stick to the window so I wasn't terribly worried.
Then I realized the window I was looking in, was a back door! I only have 2 doors not 4 doors! I was opening the wrong car!!!!!
Then I walked all around that car before I realized(!) that my own car was sitting nose to nose with the one I was trying to get into! Can you imagine my embarrassment? Probably not. But I thought you all would love that!

Holy Jeez

It has been a LONG time since I lasted posted. Totally not intentional. Between spending time with Quinn and working over 40hous last week, conference and Target, I just haven't had time to even to turn on my computer.
It is kinda funny. I have been doing everything that I needed, responding to email and facebook, returning phone calls, etc, just not on the computer. Plus this past weekend was just so long.
I am sitting here in the kitchen doing laundry, waiting for the brownies to cool, doing the dishes and need to update my resume and write a couple of cover letters. All I keep thinking is wow it has already been a month since I graduated.
A cup of strong coffee, waiting for my lunch to finish baking and updating all of email, good Lord. Whoever said you become less busy after school is over is a liar! LOL
We shall see, I am sure that sooner rather than later.
I am filling out FAFSA again so that I may finish my second Masters and not only put off those retched student loans further but also become more educated into something I would like to pursue.
I am sure I need to update this further but I need to get back to doing all the rest of my chores. TOODLES!

So I'm 26

And I dont feel a darn bit different. If anything I think that I have a lowered tolerance to alcohol than last year. I especially have a lower tolerance for what gives me a hangover this year rather than last year. This year I had a shot of tequila, a lot of wine and a beer.
Last year I had a ton of shots and I was ok the next day. This year I woke up and I REALLY thought I was ok. And then I got to work, and the students were embalming a body. Wow! I know the smell is usually pretty overwhelming for me, but really I never throw up and I almost threw up at that smell. The whole time I was there I was miserable. In fact, I had to help a student fill out financial paperwork for the school, something I am sure I am not allowed to do, and I almost threw up in her lap I was feeling so bad at one point. GGRRR
Every year I tell myself I will not get that way. Although it was only the second time I did that this year. The first time being the day I graduated from Orange University. And then it was all wine. Much smarter to only drink wine. Cause then one can still function while completely trashed!
Oh I know I promised pictures of the party, however I cannot work my camera when I am completely trashed as it turns out. However I still have graduation pictures that I really need to still put up as well.
Any other news...Well I was officially rejected today from a job that I wanted in this area....Hrm and my test results are tomorrow. I shall hear back to see if I need further medical attention. Crossing my fingers and relying on God that I do not need any further attention. Mostly because I cannot afford the medical bills.
I think that is all for the news.
