I am officially a NYS resident. Had to claim residency to get some health insurance. Makes me sad to no longer be a resident of California. However, I already have points on my license! WTF!!! Stupid ticket keeps coming back to bite me in the a$$...

Making a greener library
Now I am one of those people that is pretty concerned about the enviroment. And I try as hard as possible to recycle as much as possible and remember to turn off lights and the such. I RSS, ie I don't check it everyday it automatically comes to me on my email account, a blog called The Green Library. Click on it and you will see 100 ways to make your library greener. Or you can click on my title. I follow a great deal of these already, however it is still nice to go through and make sure you can do more.
I realize that the enviorment is not at the top of everyone's list, however I would like it to be around when I have kids someday in the future.
BTW, I am one of those hippies, except I actually believe in God. What a concept I know. LOL

Need to rant and rave for a sec
Ok so here is my little rant I am sure I have ranted about this before but I really need to say it again.
I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. Which is pretty impressive if you know me. I really want to be a leader in my community. I want people to look up to me and respect me. I want to be the person that stands up for the people that cannot stand up or speak up for themselves. I want to show people what it means to be a life long learner and help them achieve this. I am a life long learner.
I want to be a library director. I thought I would never want to work in the academic sector again, because of my undergraudate experience with them. After a year of working at Target I thought a public library had to be the same, so I could do that. I also thought I would want to work in a special library. Because how cool would that be?
Wow I so wrong. As it turns out, I really do not want to work in a special library. I do not really like sitting in an office all day. I LOVE working with my students at school. I really also like the idea of running a public library as well. Yes the public library is full of crazy people, especially if you do not live in the best area of town, but that is what keeps your life from being boring!!!!
So here I am STILL at the crossroads of my life. And I think I am at the perfect time to make huge leaps and not worry about falling.
I WILL be ok. I will be a leader in my community. I will finish my second degree. I will be a leader in my profession.
I AM scared beyond belief, but you can never know how far you can fly until you take that first leap! So here is to leaping! As far as I can go!!!

OMG hiking
So I went hiking today with this guy from Norwich, NY. He is a postal worker, so he walks for a living. I really thought I was in better shape lately. Turns out I am not. I cannot out hike the postal worker. Considering how much he walks, I really should have known better.
Everything literally hurts. My knees, feet even my hips. That is a first for me. I am used to my feet hurting but I am not used to this. The pain is not unbearable but it is not a pleasant feeling.
EDIT: I started this when I got back from hiking. The rest of this post is from the day after.
Man, I cannot believe how far I hiked yesterday. My arm hurts, my feet and the backs of my quads. I think the quads are what helped me hike uphill. This hike wasnt even that hard.
It was a cleared trail, however it was constantly up and down. Man oh man. He said we hiked between six and eight miles. All I know, is someone stop me. Now I really should be doing this much at least once a week. But it wouldnt kill me to do a couple miles one other time during the week. And now that it is summer I REALLY should start running again. That would help.
It would also help if I would put padding into my hiking boots. I have to tell you, having blisters on the balls of your feet is not pleasant, especially when I realized I have to do all stairs and high heels for the next three days straight. Gr.
On the other positive note, I am going hiking again next week with him. On the Sunday the 24th I get to go to an orientation workshop to learn how to read a compass. I am sure I know how, my dad taught me when I was little, but I need to relearn. And the the 25th, Memorial day, I get to go up to the Old Forge, NY area to go hike this lake. I beleive it is called Middle Settlement Lake, but dont quote me on that. The guy I went hiking with is the one I am going to the Lake with. Should be fairly fun, but again another really long day. The round trip for the first hike is 7 miles and the second round trip is like 9 miles. I just hope the next day I can take the elevator up four flights of stairs.
Another thing that is bothering me is a topic a student wants to research. It is not bothering me in a bad way, I just do not know where to start. This student would love to research about continuing education in funeral homes. I told him I would do some research on the subject but I am not sure where to start. I know the NFDA, but other than that. I think I will just go through a lot of the periodicals in the library to find out. I will post the pictures of the hike from yesterday when I get home today. Peace!

Finding a job
I really do not want to HAVE to leave Syracuse or NY for that matter. However I really need to go where ever someone wants to pay me a decent amount.
Ha ha thats funny tho, right? A decent amount. Basically I am looking at a starting salary of about $40,000 no matter where I go. However I would like a city the same size as mine so that I can live modestly and pay off my student loans as fast as possible.
As far as housing, I am fairly low maintenance. I would like my own room, a kitchen with equal rights, off street parking, internet and preferably washer and dryer either in the apartment/house or at least in the apartment building.
My goal is to remain here although my mother would really love it if I could move someplace where she does not have to take 2 or 3 planes to get to see me. However I still find that slightly laughable as I am the one who comes to her the most often. She drove me out here and helped me get established, however I have been home 3 times since then. Although not always for holidays, funny right?
She would also like me to move back to LA. This is not ever going to happen. As much as I love her and my fellow friends out there, I love the seasons here so much more. I like different things about each season and would much prefer to stay in the Northeast. Plus I love all the hiking I have been doing here. And I know that I have only been here for about 2 years, so I havent even found all the spots I have been wanting to find. But there are a lot of nice places out there.
I also feel the need to vent a little bit. Guys dont truly suck but they certainly keep me on my toes. There is a man that I am interested in, and for the life of me I cannot tell if he is interested in me as well. It would be really NICE if he were, however it is so hard to read him. I have talked to him on instant messenger. However it took him a month to add me on there. I am so confused by this one. It could be he just finds me interesting and wants to be friends. Either way I would just like to know. I do think he is nice, interesting, caring and cute; however if he just wants friendship then I have to know. That way I can get over him and move on.
And now also my next door neighbor thinks I like him. I am a naturally flirtaeous person and we got to talking on Sunday night about all sorts of stuff, he was over at my house for a get-together. My roommate basically had to kick him out eventually at like 10:45 at night. Even though he told us he had to be at work at 6:30 for a meeting. Now I know, and have accepted, that I have that girl next door pretty look. I am really ok with that! I like the way I look, but I didnt want my next door neighbor to ever like me. He is twenty years older than me and while I am not an ageist at all, I am pretty much an equal opportunity dater, that is too big of an age difference for me. GGGRRR. Like I said boys dont all suck, they just confuse the hell out of me!!!!!!

Better late than never
While we hope this never happens, we realize that sometimes you just plain forget. So from all of us librarians out there, thanks for returning it. But Im pretty sure you still have more fines.
Graduation
So I graduated. But I am not technically done with school or anything else. Darn me and wanting to learn more! So I have a ton of pictures. I would put them on here but it takes to darn long so just click the link thingy and you will see everything. (In other words, click on the words pictures that is underlined!) Well not everything. Bethany took around 150 pictures on that day and I am NOT posting everything. My mom took the same amount. I cant post everything but I do plan on posting the important relevant stuff.
What else is new. Oh yes we had a party on Saturday night. Melissa and I co-hosted. It was awesome and wonderful. She had purchased a great deal of wine for the party, but people all brought stuff so I think I have enough wine to last me a couple of months.
My mother and I got a premade cake at Wegmans, and had them write congrats on the cake. My mother proceeded to make a toast to all the graduates that came that we may "live long and prosper." Which I found hilarious. The speech is from Star Trek, and well that is a whole other post.
I am still technically working for Pyramid and Simmons, desperately trying to find a full time position, preferably here in Syracuse. I really do love the area, the different seasons make me happy in their own way.

Actors death
Actor Dom DeLuis has passed away. I knew his second career was in cooking but I didn't know that he was the voice of Pizza the Hut. If I have to explain that to you, then you suck and stop reading my blog immediately.
